Important Notice Concerning Your Cellular Phone
In 2003, the Federal government mandated that all cellular phones manufactured for use in the United States be capable of transmitting the user's location during an emergency call. Designated as the Automatic Location Identifier (ALI) system, the phones use Global Positioning Satellites to determine the user's location when a call is placed to participating 9-1-1 agencies.
Because of the life-saving potential, government agencies are encouraging all cellular phone users to upgrade to ALI capable phones. Although consumers are NOT required to upgrade, we believe it is prudent to do so.
Listed below are phones we sold prior to 2003 that are not ALI capable. This list does not include every phone that isn't ALI capable, only those we sold. If we activated a phone you purchased from a different company when you began service with us, it may not appear on this list. If you have any questions about your particular phone, please stop by any of our offices so we can help you determine the capability of your phone.
When you consider upgrading your phone, please keep these important facts in mind. First, South Central's network is fully capable of transmitting ALI data in an emergency. However, not every law enforcement agency is capable of receiving the data so it may be impossible for them to determine your location even if your phone is ALI capable. Second, your phone will not automatically transmit your location during an emergency--you must be able to send and receive calls. That means if your phone is damaged, your battery is dead, you are incapable of placing a call, or you are in an area that does not have cellular service, the ALI system will not function.
We feel strongly about the benefits of using an ALI capable cellular phone. Because of that, we are offering special prices on select models of phones for customers who wish to upgrade to an ALI capable phone. Please contact our stores for details.
